Our Mission
HTA is a collective of like-minded Taekwondo practitioners who wish to honor traditional Taekwondo tenets and seeks to strengthen and develop them. We strive to be a highly relational organization. We accomplish this through collaboration and desire to foster a healthy community.
We believe that Taekwondo is not just about kicking and punching. We wish to be a traditional Taekwondo organization that places great importance on the character and etiquette of Taekwondo people. We hope to show our authenticity and sincerity in the "-do" aspect of Taekwondo.
Poomsae (form) training aims to capture the spirit of mental and physical cultivation based on solid fundamentals, Kyorugi (sparring) emphasizes the harmony of strength and speed, Hoshinsul (self-defense) can be used on the street and hone the skills accordingly, and Kyukpa (breaking) trains the body and mind to concentrate the body and mind to produce formidable power. We accomplish this through approaching curriculum in a holistic sense, not neglecting any of the elements of traditional Kukki Taekwondo.
HTA exists to educate and propagate Kukkiwon Taekwondo in order to provide students with training to “be the best”. HTA considers Kukkiwon to be the parent entity, working to complement, not to oppose. We respect all Taekwondo backgrounds and lineages, but we align with the standard that is set by the World Taekwondo Headquarters (Kukkiwon). We highly value continuing education and provide regular opportunities to train with one another under the instruction some of the world's best Masters, Instructors, Coaches, and Athletes.
HTA wishes to empower Dojang owners, Masters, and Instructors to have thriving Taekwondo programs that benefit the community. HTA acknowledges that this goal can be accomplished through many different avenues, whether it’s through development of high performance athletes, regular traditional classes and programs, private and small group sessions, or even successful after school programs. We offer resources to develop successful programs. We love to celebrate successes and strive to provide an honest space to re-evaluate and course correct if necessary.
We understand that we cannot grow in isolation. Competition is a litmus test to see how we stack up and to gauge where we can sharpen our skillset. We understand that not every practitioner is a world class athlete, but there is value to be had to prepare for and to be evaluated based on that preparation. HTA members regularly attend many tournaments around the world. We highly encourage all of our members to participate in a tournament, no matter what level it is, and will partner with members to provide resources at these events.
Further, we embrace our connection to our traditional roots by providing opportunities to obtain rank certificates through traditional Kwans and the Kukkiwon.
